2022 Northwest Guitar Competition

The 29th annual NORTHWEST GUITAR FESTIVAL and COMPETITION April 1st-3rd, 2022

The deadline to submit application materials is Sunday, March 5th, and semifinalists will be notified by March 10th.

Eligibility: The competition is open to those residing in Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington, who are students or at the start of a professional career. Eligibility on these criteria is subject to the discretion of the organizing board. Previous 1st prize-winners are not eligible.

No Set piece

Entry Requirements:
1) A video of any two pieces in contrasting styles not to exceed ten minutes total. Recordings must be unedited and recorded within the last year. Please submit a  hyperlink (YouTube, Vimeo etc).

2) A proposed program of no more than twenty-five minutes in length.

3) Contact information, including name, phone number and email address.

Semi-Finals: Participants will be chosen on the basis of video elimination. Semi-finalists will perform their own choice of music from their final program before a panel of judges, not to exceed 8 minutes in total. Semi-finals are open to the public.

Finals: Four finalists will be chosen to perform their full programs before the public and panel. Competitors are judged on musicianship, technique, programming and presentation.

Applications must be submitted by email to jpshields3@hotmail.com by March 5th, 2022. Semi-finalists will be notified by March 10th, 2022. Competition entry is free, but Semi-finalists will be required to register as full participants in the festival by March 18th.

All decisions made by the judges are final and without appeal. Prizes may be vacated at the judges’ discretion. 1st Prize of $1000 US, 2nd Prize: $500, 3rd Prize: $300, 4th Prize: $200
