The 29th annual NORTHWEST GUITAR FESTIVAL and COMPETITION March 27th – 29th, 2020
2/18 Update: The deadline to submit application materials is Sunday, March 1, and semifinalists will be notified by 3/9.
Eligibility: The competition is open to those residing in Montana, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Utah, Wyoming, British Columbia, and Alberta, who are students or at the start of a professional career. Eligibility on these criteria is subject to the discretion of the organizing board. Previous 1st prize-winners are not eligible.
No Set piece
1) A video of any two pieces in contrasting styles not to exceed ten minutes total. Recordings must be unedited and recorded within the last year. Please submit a file link (Dropbox, GoogleDrive etc) or hyperlink (YouTube, Vimeo etc).
2) A proposed program, not to exceed twenty-five minutes. This time limit is firm.
3) Contact information, including name, phone number and email address.
Semi-Finals: Participants will be chosen on the basis of video elimination. Semi-finalists will perform their own choice of music from their final program before a panel of judges, time limit: 8 minutes total. Semi-finals are open to the public.
Finals: Four finalists will be chosen to perform their full 25-minute programs before the public and panel. Competitors are judged on musicianship, technique, programming and presentation.
Applications must be submitted by email to NWGuitarFestival@gmail.com byMarch 1st, 2020. Semi-finalists will be notified by March 9th, 2020. Competition entry is free, but Semi-finalists will be required to register as full participants in the festival by March 16th.
All decisions made by the judges are final and without appeal. Prizes may be vacated at the judges’ discretion. 1st Prize of $1000 US, 2nd Prize: $500, 3rd Prize: $300, 4th Prize: $200
