The 27th annual NORTHWEST GUITAR FESTIVAL And COMPETITION April 6-8th, 2018
Eligibility: The competition is open to those residing in Montana, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Utah, Wyoming, British Columbia, and Alberta, who are students or at the start of a professional career. Eligibility on these criteria is subject to the discretion of the organizing board. Previous 1st prize-winners are not eligible.
Set piece: any 19th-c. Etude.
Entry Requirements: A CD/dvd recording/video shall be submitted with the following:
1) A recording of any two pieces in contrasting styles not to exceed ten minutes total. Set piece not required for recording leg of competition.
2) A proposed program, typed, not to exceed twenty minutes. This time limit is firm.
3) Contact information, including name, phone number and email address.
Semi-Finals: Participants will be chosen on the basis of tape elimination. Semi-finalists will perform their selections from the set piece options, and one free choice from their final program before a panel of judges. Semi-finals are open to the public.
Finals: Four finalists will be chosen to perform their full 20-minute programs before the public and panel. Competitors are judged on musicianship, technique, programming and presentation.
Applicants must submit the application form, required CD, and proposed program, by February 24th, 2018. Semi-finalists will be notified by March 10th, 2018. Competition entry is free, but Semi-finalists will be required to register as full participants in the festival by March 24th.
All decisions made by the judges are final and without appeal. Prizes may be vacated at the judges’ discretion. First Prize of $1000 US.
